Holy Krabi

“Holy Crap” That’s the first words came out when I finished reading the weather forecast. I have booked everything from tickets to hotels in Krabi, and now I cant believe my eyes, Monsoon Season In Thailand. Growing up in Indonesia, I knew what Monsoon are, rainy seasons, I have been to Bali in rainy season, I certainly know what I must face. Humid weather, cloudy, wet and the sea is rough. It is not beach holiday I expected at all.

Since everything have been paid, there’s no reason to cancel. But this is a great lesson for me, weather forecast need to be checked long before the plane tickets search start. I used to checked weather when I packed, but with a full time job, days off are often difficult to get. So I have been too excited and forgot everything else when I found the plane ticket and the hotel way too cheap, It was an alert to low season after all.

Holy Krabi, I get Lucky

Landed in Krabi International Airport from Kuala Lumpur at 15 October 2015,  5 PM local time, after out from immigration, We found the van that will take us to the Hotel. You can find this van park around the airport, and try to bargain reasonable price to get you to your hotel. This van usually runs by locals. The distance from the airport to Ao Nang ( my hotel location ) is Approximately 25-30 km, quite far, and can be reached around 60 – 90 minutes, depends on the drivers.

At 7 pm finally  we arrived at Ao Nang cliff beach resort, The hotel situated in a hill cliff, located in the heart of Ao Nang, the hotel just steps away from shopping, dining, nightlife, and the public beach. The hotel design stated as modern Thai design, but what I love is the bath tub at the balcony. As the morning arise I realized that the tub facing the breath taking view, the majestic limestone cliffs and overlooking the pristine Andaman Sea.

After a big breakfast we search Tour Agency for our island hopping, after finding one, I start to chat about the Monsoon with the tour’s lady ( if something wrong in rough sea, who want to rescue me). She said the monsoon leaves early this years, That’s why from we arrived until now, we don’t see a drop of rainfall. “Holy Krabi”, I am lucky, first, got a great deal because of low season, now the monsoon season gone, what a perfect combination. ( Don’t try to do this, it is like a gambling situation).

After a night in Ao Nang, we spent the next two days in the beautiful resorts Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra Golf and Spa Resort. Just a few steps from the beach and Andaman Sea, the resort features a 7,000 m² lagoon-style pool, the largest swimming pool in Thailand. its huge literally. I am into a beach scene so much that almost every year, you will find me lounging in the beach some where or relaxing in the pool at the resorts. I love tanning even though I’m not going to be darker anyway. And my friends always irritating of my behavior that, I don’t like doing anything when I am on resort. I called it a Resort Rest, I eat, sleep and reading by the pool all day, that’s the meaning of relaxing.

After a day of Resort Rest, we ready for islands hopping from morning untill dawn. The tour will take us to Koh Gai (Chicken Island), Koh Tup, Koh Mawr and Koh Poda with lunch provided. Koh Tup, Koh Mawr and Koh Poda are linked by a sand bar. Koh Poda is a large island where you can find toilets and a kiosk selling snacks after that we go to James Bond Island and the last Phi-phi Island. Island hopping is probably at the top of every Krabi visitor’s to-do list: this coastal province boasts more than 100 islands and dramatic rock formations out at sea, which makes for a thrilling boat ride. You’ll take in breathtaking colors and scenery before even reaching the white sand beaches and turquoise water!

As the sun goes down, and the night is coming, we are happily tired. At the end of the day, what is count is having a great diner.So we decided to have a barbecue style diner at the Hotel, as our last supper before heading back to Kuala Lumpur the next day.

As conclusion, Krabi is worth to visit if you like laidback beach life or Resort Rest like me (less crowded beaches than in Phuket), otherwise you will be getting bored here. Now you decide…
